Basic Information About Academic Programmes
The Faculty of Humanities is a relatively new faculty (established in 2000). Its predecessor was the Institute of the Foundations of Learning which offered a similar but more restricted range of study programmes, and organised teaching mainly in collaboration with other faculties of Charles University. The faculty offers a 3-year bachelor programme in Foundations of the Learning in Humanities. The programme is the basis for a follow-up 2-to-3-year master programme which may be taken in a range of specialised fields (Social Ecology and Environmental Protection, Humanities, Social Politics and Social Work, Media and Communication Studies). Depending on the programme studied, the graduates are qualified to work in civil services, cultural administration, social movements, social counselling and services, religion communities, all types of mass media, health and social institutions, management and various international organisations. The faculty also offers a Ph.D. study programme in anthropology.

Lifelong Learning


Admission
Applicants for the bachelor's degree programme are required to take a practical examination. Detailed information on the examination and the requirements may be obtained from the faculty web site or from the Students' Department. Admission to the master programme following on from bachelor studies is conditional upon submission of a certificate of graduation from bachelor studies in a related field, and a successful passing of the respective entrance examination. In 2009/2010, the number of applicants to the Faculty was 2601. The Faculty selected 1170 applicants, i.e., 45,0 % of the candidates, for admission.

Information for Foreign Students
All study programmes are only conducted in the Czech language. In addition, the Faculty of Humanities in cooperation with CERGE-EI (The Centre for Economic Research and Graduate Education - Economics Institute) offer an Undergraduate Programme in Central European Studies (UPCES). The programme is focused on integral issues of Central Europe and is taught in English. Tuition fees for international students are as follows: $7,000 or $13,000 for a full year (two-semester, autumn/spring only) programme.
