The Faculty offers the following study programmes and awards the following degrees: - Bachelor Study Programmes After the state final examination: "bakalář" (i.e. "Bachelor"), abbreviated as "Bc." - Master Study Programmes After the state "rigorous" examination from General Medicine: "doktor medicíny" (i.e. "Doctor of Medicine"), abbreviated as "MUDr.", and after the state rigorous examination from Dental Medicine: "zubní lékař" (i.e. "Doctor of Dental Medicine"), abbreviated as "MDDr." - Doctoral Study Programmes After the state doctoral examination: "doktor" (i.e. "Doctor"), abbreviated as "Ph.D."

Basic Information About Academic Programmes
The First Medical Faculty in Prague is a medical educational establishment registered with the World Health Organisation. It has been part of Charles University since its founding in 1348. The faculty trains future doctors in master study programmes. The study programmes in General Medicine are organised only on a full-time basis and last six years. The study programme in Dental Medicine also lasts five years and includes the education in medicine (in a condensed form) and specialised education in Dental Medicine. Graduates from the Medicine program are eligible to begin work in the area of adult preventive and medical care and in paediatric preventive and medical care. Graduates from Dental Medicine are eligible to begin work in the sphere of dental care, oral care and related fields. Student education involves courses in theoretical, preclinical and clinical subjects. Since the academic year 1994/95 the faculty has offered several bachelor study programmes which last from three to four years (depending on the branch and the form of study). Students who successfully complete their first six semesters (three years of medicine studies ) can begin work as intermediate-level medical workers or in a medical laboratory.

Lifelong Learning
Another possibility to study at the Faculty is to take part in short-term courses (including the preparatory courses for applicants and the University of the Third Age). The courses are offered by the Faculty within the framework of life-long education programmes. Graduates of these courses will obtain certificates or credits.

Admission
The applicants to the First Medical Faculty are required to take written entrance examinations in physics, chemistry and biology. In 2009/2010, the number of applicants to the Faculty was 2825. The Faculty selected 1100 applicants, i.e., 39,3 % of the candidates, for admission.

Information for Foreign Students
The Faculty has introduced a study programme in medicine and dental medicine for a limited number of international students on a self-paying basis. The programme is taught in English. International students may also attend programmes where the language of instruction is Czech after passing entrance examinations in the Czech language. Applicants for study programmes taught in English will be interviewed and examined in English. The tuition fee for international students is 10,500 USD per academic year.
