Basic Information About Academic Programmes
All programmes contain an important element of theoretical subjects and also applied disciplines. The students are educated mainly for the follow-up Master programmes, but each of the programmes is at the same time further complemented by specialised subjects so that the graduate can opt for getting a job following Bachelor-degree graduation. All the programmes take three years with general compulsory subjects forming the students´ profile, which is further individualised with semi-compulsory and eligible subjects depending on the student's own interest. The studies are completed with the submission of a Bachelor thesis and a State Bachelor-degree Examination. These programmes are divided further into nine specialised sectors and one special sector. The Faculty of Agronomy has already accredited ten new follow-up two-year Master-degree programmes, which are being made available gradually. From the academic year 2005/2006 the students will be offered the following Master programmes: Animal Science, Crop Science, Plant Protection, Horticulture, Genetical Engineering and Breeding, Rural Policy and Agriculture, Farm Produce Quality and Processing, Care of the Biosphere, Soil Assessment and Conservation, Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) - programme in the English Language. These programmes are sub-divided into 19 study sectors which offer the students a high-level university education which is guaranteed by the compulsory curriculum, complemented with the student's own choice of specialised subjects. Studies in all programmes take two years; they are completed with the submission of a thesis and with a state final examination. The programme "Natural Resources and Environment" started in the academic year 2002/2003 and is entirely in the English Language. All the study programmes conform to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Credits obtained at other European universities within the exchange programmes count equally. PhD programmes are important in the education of top scientists in the individual fields of science and in preparing the incoming generation of scientists. Each of the Doctoral programmes sub-divides into two sectors of a general and a specific character (see Tab. 4). Besides the accredited programmes, PhD students specialise in agreement with their scientific supervisor's field and their relevant department. All doctoral study programmes offer a broad choice of specialisations, in accordance with students' interests and requirements.

Admission
The applicants for bachelor study programmes are required to take an entrance examination in biology and chemistry. Admission for doctoral study programmes is based on a public competition. In 2009/2010, the number of applicants to the Faculty was 4994. The Faculty selected 2294 applicants, i.e., 46,0 % of the candidates, for admission.

Information for Foreign Students
The study programmes are organised in the Czech language only, except the Programme "Natural Resources and Environment" which is entirely in the English Language. The closing date for applications for this programme is May 31. The Faculty can also offer special non-degree courses on selected topics and some doctoral study programmes in English and German. The fee for a full three-year doctoral study programme is EUR 5,500 per academic year.
