Basic Information About Academic Programmes
The Faculty offers six-year full-time study programmes in the fields of General Medicine, five year full time study of dentistry. The study of General Medicine is divided into three parts: - theoretical (initial two years), - pre-clinical (third year), - clinical (final three years). The studies are concluded when the student passes his or her state examination and is awarded the degree MUDr. (Doctor of Medicine), which is equivalent to the degree of Medical Doctor (M.D.). The Faculty offers three-year bachelor study programmes in Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation (full-time only), and in Nursing (full-time as well as part-time). Graduates usually find employment in hospitals, rehabilitation institutions, spas, etc. The Faculty is accredited to provide two doctoral study programmes in 19 branches of Medicine. Doctoral study programmes are scheduled for three years (full-time) or five years (part-time). The European Credit Transfer System was introduced in the academic year 1999/2000.

Lifelong Learning


Admission
All applicants, except those applying for admission to the Nursing programme, must take an entrance examination in biology, chemistry and physics. The entrance examination is in the form of a written test. It consists mostly of multiple-choice questions, supplemented by a small number of chemical equations and calculations in physics and biology. The entrance examination in Nursing consists of a written test in medical symptomatology, somatology and the theory of nursing, and also includes a practical test. Application forms must be submitted before February 28. The entrance examinations take place in mid-June. Applicants for doctoral study programmes submit an application including a copy of their medical diploma. Then they are invited for an interview. In 2009/2010 the Faculty selected 1502 applicants.The Faculty selected 402 applicants.

Information for Foreign Students
The Faculty offers all the aforementioned bachelor and master study programmes for foreign students in the Czech language. The Faculty also offers master study programme in General medicine and some doctoral study programmes in English. The quality and content of the programmes are identical with those taught in Czech. Students from various countries are admitted on the basis of an entrance examination (similar to that for Czech students) and an interview aiming to assess the applicant's knowledge in general subjects, his/her motivation, and the knowledge of English (for applicants from non-English speaking countries). Tuition fees for foreign students are as follows: - Master study programme taught in English: USD 8,000 per academic year - Doctoral study programme taught in English: USD 8,000 per academic year.
