Basic Information About Academic Programmes
The Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen was founded in October 1945 as a branch of the Faculty of Medicine of Charles University, but soon became an independent faculty of the University. The Faculty is accredited to teach master study programmes in General Medicine and in Dental Medicine/Stomatology. Courses in theoretical medicine subjects are taken in the first two study years, and in the following years the curriculum contains pre-clinical and clinical subjects. The Faculty provides a bachelor study programme in Nursing, both on a full-time and part-time basis, and in Health and Social and Geriatric Care, on a full-time basis. The Faculty is also accredited to deliver doctoral study programmes in both theoretical and clinical specialisations.

Lifelong Learning
Another possibility to study at the Faculty is to take part in short-term courses (including the preparatory courses for applicants and the University of the Third Age). The courses are offered by the Faculty within the framework of life-long education programmes. Graduates from these courses obtain certificates or credits.

Admission
All applicants are required to take an entrance examination. It includes a written test in physics, chemistry and biology for both study programmes. In addition to the written test, applicants for the Dental Medicine/Stomatology study programme are required to take a practical examination in manual skills. For the bachelor study programme in nursing, the entrance examination consists of psychology and somatology. In 2009/2010, the number of applicants to the Faculty was 1402. The Faculty selected 439 applicants, i.e., 31,3 % of the candidates, for admission.

Information for Foreign Students
The Faculty offers master study programmes in General Medicine and in Dental Medicine/Stomatology in English for groups of international students. The tuition fee for international students in the master (MUDr. degree) study programmes in English is USD 9,000 per academic year.
