Basic Information About Academic Programmes
The Faculty educates specialists in health care. Applied Radiobiology and Toxicology This study programme trains students to become specialists in radiobiology and toxicology. The graduates can find jobs in public administration, in crisis management departments of state and regional administrative authorities, in plants (especially chemical ones) and in rescue organizations. Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering Graduates from this study programme are prepared to handle interdisciplinary issues in biophysics, with a special focus on both the modern and classic medicine sector, in institutions that develop and trade in laboratory and technological medical equipment; they can also be active in the sphere of biophysics legislation, marketing and management. Midwifery This study programme trains students to be able to assess the present state of women´s bio-psycho-social needs and provide them with the relevant individual care during the time of their healthy life, pregnancy, childbirth, and illness periods. Graduates find jobs in the relevant spheres of health care for women, newborn babies, families and social groups. General Nursing This study programme trains students for various positions in modern nursing (primary, secondary, tertiary) in agreement with the principles and standards in place in EU countries. Graduates can find jobs in a wide number of private and state medical and social organisations and institutions (hospitals and out-patient institutions). They are prepared to apply new principles of nursing, focusing on individual care, healthy life styles and the prevention of diseases. Prevention and Rehabilitation of Social Pathology This study programme prepares specialists to handle issues related to the misuse of psychotropic substances and other narcotics. Graduates can find jobs in public and state administration bodies which are active in socio-pathology, especially in drugs-related issues. They can also work as social workers, contact persons and advisors in after-treatment centres and in other institutions where care and services are provided to social groups at risk. Rehabilitation and Psychosocial Care for Disabled Children, Adults and Elderly People Graduates are qualified to deal with health and social issues; they also possess skills in special pedagogy. Social rehabilitation comprises medical, social, pedagogical and work rehabilitation. Graduates may work in the medical sector, public administration, in organizations and institutions providing social care, and in consultancies. They are also trained to work in health and social primary prevention management. Protection of Public Health This study programme trains students in the sphere of preventive medicine and focuses on public health care. Graduates can find jobs in hygiene and epidemiological departments at in public and state administration bodies (departments concerned with working conditions) and in environmental institutions. They can also work in medical centres, in industrial medicine departments of District Hygiene Stations, and in private and corporate medical institutions. Radiological Assistant Studies This study programme prepares specialists in radiological and x-radiation displaying methods in medicine. The studies follow the development of similar professions abroad and are in accordance with WHO requirements. Crisis Radiobiology and Toxicology This study programme provides students with theoretical and practical knowledge in radiation physics, radio-biology, dosimeter ionising radiation, methods of radiation protection, state administration organization, statistical analyses, IT, basic information about pedagogy and didactics. This knowledge provides graduates with a wide range of employment opportunities in medical, rescue and military institutions and in state administration. Rehabilitation and Psychosocial Care for Disabled Children, Adults and Elderly People Graduates have a comprehensive knowledge in the sphere of social-health rehabilitation, social services management, human rights and their social aspects, crises management methods and international processes. From the social rehabilitation point of view, the graduates are able to use life quality evaluating systems and are trained to master and apply all aspects of these systems - e. g. social, pedagogical and working rehabilitation. Prevention, Treatment and Therapy, and Medical and Social Problems of Children and Juveniles This postgraduate study programme is focused on the training of research and scientific workers specialized in preventive, rehabilitative and therapeutical care of children and young people. This programme covers the combination of social work aspects, the relevant curricula and the application of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, as well as other relevant internationally recognized documents.

Lifelong Learning
As part of lifelong learning programmes the Faculty also organizes four-semester studies called the University of the Third Age. These studies are organized within the Human Health Care study programme. Having finished the University of the Third Age, graduates may continue their studies within the University of the Third Age Alumni Club.

Admission
All applicants for bachelor study programme must pass an entrance examination. The entrance examination is in the main subject of the study programme selected. In 2003, the number of applicants to the Faculty was 2,005. The Faculty selected 689 applicants, i.e. 34.4 % of the candidates, for admission.

Information for Foreign Students
The Faculty offers full-time studies in all study programmes for foreign students on the basis of a government scholarship. Instruction is given only in Czech. The knowledge of Czech is a pre-condition for admission to study programmes. The content of the entrance examination is the same as for Czech students. The Faculty offers one-semester or one-year non-degree courses for foreign students, taught in English, dealing with selected parts of the aforementioned fields of study. Tuition fees for a one-semester non-degree course are USD 350 and for a one-year non-degree course, USD 700.
