Basic Information About Academic Programmes
The Protestant Theological Faculty became part of Charles University on May 10, 1990. The primary goal of this faculty is to educate experts for duties in Protestant Churches in its master study programme in theology. The regular master study programme on a full-time basis takes five years, but in some cases it may be prolonged. In bachelor study programmes, the Faculty educates students to work as teachers and pastoral and social workers. The foundation for the theological studies is the Bible and its interpretation with reference to dogmas, creeds and church life.

Lifelong Learning
Another possibility to study at the Faculty is to take part in short-term courses of various types offered by the Faculty within the framework of life-long education programmes. Graduates from these courses obtain certificates or credits.

Admission
Applicants for studies at this faculty must have completed their secondary school education and must be able to speak at least one non-Czech modern language. Students at this faculty have to achieve passive mastery of the Latin, Greek and Hebrew languages within their first two years of study. All applicants must take an entrance examination consisting of a written part and an oral part. The entrance exams are determined by the Faculty itself. In 2009/2010, the number of applicants to the Faculty was 363. The Faculty selected 269 applicants, i.e., 74,1 % of the candidates, for admission.

Information for Foreign Students
Bachelor study programmes are taught in Czech only. The final part of the master programme can be studied in Czech or in English. The Faculty offers one-semester or one-year non-degree courses in English. The Faculty can organise doctoral study programmes for groups or for individual fee-paying international students in English, and accepts doctoral theses in English, German, French or Russian depending on the theme and supervisor. The tuition fee for international students in the two-year master degree programme taught in English is 8,000 USD per academic year, in doctoral study programmes taught in English it is USD 10,000 per academic year. The Centre for Biblical Studies, in co-operation with the Czech Academy of Sciences, takes part in research projects involving similar institutions abroad. The Ecumenical Institute, under the supervision of the Faculty, organises contacts with foreign faculties and with ecumenical movements. It also co-ordinates academic co-operation with other ecumenical institutes and is especially involved with international students.
